An open letter to the Targets

Powerful words from a young blogger. A must read if you are a teen or live with one.

Dear self-conscious, maligned, beaten down, broken whoever you are,Chances are that you don’t really want to talk to me or read these words and know that I am addressing you. But I am. You can either put up with that or click that little red cross in the corner. How are you? I hope that you are good, but are you feeling well? There is a difference and I hope that you can see it.

Ann Frank, Hope and Teens

Today would have been Ann Frank’s 84th birthday. I never realized until today that she was born the same year as my mom. If she’d lived she might be attending her granddaughter’s 8th grade graduation today, just like my mom. Her private writing inspired so many kids to look at themselves and look at history. And it inspired people to look at teens and listen to their words. Often it is the teens who can see through it all without the clouds of preconceived dust in the way – they can still see the potential for good in mankind.

On June 15, 1944, about six weeks before her family was found out, Anne Frank wrote, “It’s a wonder I haven’t abandoned all my ideals, they seem so absurd and impractical. Yet I cling to them because I still believe, in spite of everything, that people are truly good at heart.”

Things to Teach Our Children

Things to teach our children:

  • Winning/beating someone in a lower skill level is not winning. It is a sissy thing to do. Strive for higher goals not the easy win.
  • Winning is not everything.
  • Life is not fair so learn from your experiences.
  • Even when things suck know that you’ve done your best.
  • Some people have bad morals and values and you have to deal with it because THEY are not going to change. You have to stand by what is right.
  • Being involved in a sport does not mean you will always see good sportsmanship.
  • If you fall get back up and keep going.
  • Never give up.
  • Believe in yourself.
  • Support others.
  • You’re a good person if you do the right thing, treat other people fairly and stand your ground.

Ultimate Parenting Musings

When you bring a baby or child home, whether you give birth to it or adopt it or foster or live with any child, you bring home the entire universe in a kid sized package. And something you’re never told…You NEVER know who you’re bringing home with you.Your child is not your clone. Your child is someone with their own will and their own view – right from the start.Throw out the baby and child care books because this little person is going to prove they’re ALL WRONG. And you’ll have more fun than you EVER imagined. So what does a woman who muses on mom stuff teach the children in her life?
